JTHF held its second annual Play Ball Dinner and Auction over the weekend on Saturday, November 3, 2007 to help raise money and more importantly awareness for pediatric brain tumors. The Annual Play Ball Dinner and Auction is the biggest event and fundraiser of the year for JTHF. Close to 200 people were in attendance and approximately $45,000 was raised on behalf of the organization.

This year’s event was hosted by Tom Gamble, of the sports talk radio show, Two Angry Guys. Main contributors to the event, Yelton’s Fine Jewelry, Wellington Orthopaedic and Grant Thornton all helped make the auction items a big success. Some of the live auction items even made it up to and over $2,000.

Thanks to all the generous support from hundreds of donors, two large contributions were made on Saturday night. The first check was in the amount of $15,000 to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The money provided to the Children’s Hospital was a direct effort of an event earlier in the year, the Annual Robert Jackson Golf Classic. The second check was for $75,000 to the Ohio State University, a partnership JTHF has been cultivating for the past few years resulting in a fellowship fund for pediatric brain tumor research that will eventually total $250,000.

“If we can get people involved to raise awareness about [pediatric brain tumors] that will lead to the money, the money will lead to the research and the research will lead to the cure,” said JTHF President Tim Hayden. “This event is always about raising awareness first, and the money will come second.”

A big thank you is deserved by the dinner and auction chairwoman, Denis Siegel and her great team of volunteers and supporters. They spent months preparing for the event and all their hard work cannot go unaccounted for.

The Annual Play Ball Dinner and Auction was held at the Manor House Banquet and Conference Center at 7 p.m. The cost was $100 per person.
