The 2006 Lakota March Madness Tournament has wrapped up and as expected, it was the biggest and best ever in the six year history of the event. There were over 90 boys and girls teams from grades 3 to 6 and over 875 Lakota students participated, with every elementary school in the district being represented.

Well over 100 adults volunteered their time to help coach a team or help with the tournament organization itself and dozens more handled the gate and concessions at each of the tournament games. East and West high school players, both boys and girls got involved as referees at the games this year.

The tournament ran from Monday, March 27 through Thursday, April 6 and the proceeds from the tournament benefited both Reach-Out Lakota and The Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation. Thanks go out to Tournament Committee Chairman Gene Slageter and Treasurer Dave Sullender and their army of volunteers for putting on a great event!

On Friday, May 12th, Gene and Dave delivered a check in the amount of $1,100 to the Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation to help in the fight against pediatric brain tumors. We appreciate their efforts and look forward to next years!
