The second annual JTHF Book Drive was held during the month of
October and all indications say it was a huge success. This year ten
Lakota schools participated, along with the Barnes and Noble on Union
Centre, to collect children’s books, games and movies to benefit
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and their satellite locations. This year
1,188 books were collected, which is more than five times last year’s
total. In addition 8 Gameboy players, 17 Gameboy games, 18 Playstation
games, 21 DVDs, 14 VCR tapes, 4 books on tape and over 150 sheets of
stickers and several books of stickers were also collected.
Mrs. Ledra Bugg’s first grade class (pictured below) at VanGorden
Elementary collected the most books of any one school with 221. To
recognize this achievement, they will be treated to a special surprise
on Tuesday, November 22nd, courtesy of our friends at Carvel Ice Cream
on Rt. 747.

Thanks to everyone that contributed to this years book drive. Special
thanks go out to the participating Lakota Schools: Freedom Elementary,
Shawnee Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Woodland Elementary, Adena
Elementary, Union Elementary, VanGorden Elementary, Lakota Freshman
School, Lakota Ridge Jr. and Lakota Plains Jr. High. Thank you to Barnes
and Noble Bookstore for their donations and agreeing to serve as an
additional drop off location.
