Each year, for as long as most people can remember, Bob Schloemer organizes the March Madness basketball tournament for the Lakota Local School District in West Chester, Ohio. This is a one-and-out elimination tournament in which all the Lakota elementary schools field third, fourth, fifth and six grade basketball teams to compete against each other within the district. Team entry fees, along with concessions and gate money are collected to help offset the expense of putting on this tournament. Any additional money is then donated to a local charity. This year, the Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation was the recipient of this donation, which amounted to $1,325.

What makes this gift special to us is that Jeffrey and his brother Joe played in this tournament each year for Freedom Elementary. Jeff’s last game was in March of 2004. He pleaded with the doctor to let him play even though he was struggling through the side effects of his radiation and chemo treatments. It’s an honor to have this money donated to his foundation and we thank Bob and his family, his staff, the Lakota Schools and everyone that participated to help make this an enjoyable and successful event.

Thanks Bob for Making a Difference in the fight against pediatric brain tumors!
