The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Head Coach Mike Babcock are working on a collaborative effort in the fight against childhood cancer with the Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation (JTHF) and the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). The goal of this project is to help in the fight against pediatric brain tumors through an online database that will insure there is a place where parents can get the best and most current information to empower them to make life-altering decisions for their children.

The project will be part of the online Pediatric Brain Tumor Resource Center, which is located on the JTHF website, (www.jthf.com) and will feature the TumorTracker™ database and the Interactive Virtual Hub™. Currently, there is no vehicle for collecting information during long intervals between visits or on treatments, therapies and other non-traditional cures. Parents can use the website to gather information and interact with doctors online.

In addition, Leonard Sender, M.D., Medical Director of the CHOC Cancer Institute, will develop a pilot program, the CHOC Cancer Advisory Board, enlisting nationally renowned experts in pediatric cancer, this advisory group will be made up of the best of the best in their chosen fields and will evaluate the most unique and complex clinical situations that arise in brain tumor patients.

The TumorTracker™ database is the key component in tracking treatment effectiveness and focusing research efforts, while the Interactive Virtual Hub™ will allow parents to interact online directly with the experts. CureCoaches™ will be assigned and a GamePlan™ will be created for complex cases to discuss treatment options, give second opinions and give parents timely and factual information that is critical in determining the proper treatments needed for their children.

“The interactive website will allow for the first time, the medical community to receive definitive information on all of the treatments patients receive throughout the progression of the disease," stated Dr. Sender. This information is key to gaining a better understanding of treatment results including side effects and patients' quality of life data.”

“We are proud to be partnering with the Children’s Hospital of Orange County and the Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation,” stated head coach Mike Babcock. “Together we hope to make a difference and raise support and awareness for this worthy cause.”

“Cure rates for pediatric brain tumors remain the worst of all childhood cancers,” said Tim Hayden, President of the Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation. “JTHF is proud to be part of this program and are grateful to the Ducks for bringing these organizations together.”
