The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim are proud to announce that Head Coach Mike Babcock was honored on Monday, January 24th at the Fifth Annual Sports Profiles Plus Awards where he was the recipient of the Humanitarian Award for his dedication to the community.

Coach Babcock shares the Mighty Ducks commitment to the community and assists the organization’s local efforts through many events such as holding ice hockey clinics for youth hockey coaches and youth ice hockey teams throughout the Southland, helping with the Mighty Pucklings program to get kids active in street hockey and supporting all of the Mighty Ducks annual community events.

He is extremely committed in his quest to help those afflicted with cancer. After losing his mother to the tragic disease, he has given back to the cause in many ways. From visiting children in local Orange County hospitals to making spontaneous check-up visits to fans homes that he has met through the years that are faced with the disease, he is always looking to help make an impact. In addition, Coach Babcock often invites families that are stricken with the disease to be his special guests at Mighty Ducks home games.

His work with cancer continues, as he is greatly active in the Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation. The mission of the Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation is to increase awareness about Pediatric Brain Tumors and provide education and support to affected families and to raise money to fund worthy causes; such as academic scholarships, research, and assist other support organizations with their efforts, with a focus on finding a balance between the best available treatments with the best quality of life.

Also, Coach Babcock is working with Dr. Sender from the Children’s Hospital of Orange County to create a Virtual Hub which will feature an advisory board of the top specialists in the field to consult on complex cases, serve as a source where parents will be able to receive second opinions, and insure that there is a place where parents can get the best information to empower them to make life altering decisions for their children.

In addition, he is working with the American Cancer Society in their launch of a new personal navigation system that will feature 24-hour nurse-driven assistance directing patients and parents with their journey with the disease.
